Praca Tiradentes, named after revolution ‘hero’ Tiradentes. Almost every Brazilian town has a square named after him. He conspired against the government in what was to be the Inconfidencia Mineira. However, his revolution was pre-empted. He was sentenced to death, a sentence later recalled by the King who did not want to create a martyr. News reached Ouro too late, however, as the deed was done and Tiradentes was dead. To me, his life (and death) scream failure, don’t tell the Brazilians!
